THINKING CRITICALLY AND ACTING RESPONSIBLY
ELEMENTARY INSTITUTE August 1-2, 2005, Chicago Description and application [pdf] Developed and piloted at elementary schools in Chicago and in District U-46 (Elgin, Illinois and surrounding communities), VOICE (Violence-Prevention Outcomes in Civic Education) incorporates conflict resolution, law-related education, and service learning to help students develop a deeper understanding of the U.S. Constitution and our system of government. Since 1996 VOICE has supplemented 4th and 5th grade social studies and reinforced reading and math skills. In 2000, using the VOICE framework, the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago created Primary VOICE for 2nd and 3rd grades, using literature in conjunction with interactive lessons.
